What does a world look like where humanity coexists harmoniously, both with each other and with nature? And what actions and decisions are needed today to move us closer to this balanced future? Dif Project 100Y+ aims to look beyond today’s challenges and debates, forging a hopeful path toward a flourishing future for all.
Why do we need this?
The reality is that most of the resources we depend on for our comfortable lives exist in limited quantities in the Earth’s crust. From oil and gas to the rare minerals embedded in our consumer products, supplies are dwindling even as demand grows.
Today, communication channels—news, social media—give the 90% of the world’s population that owns only 24% of global wealth a view into the lifestyles of the wealthiest 10%. Meanwhile, climate change is making their own regions unlivable. This inequality will end, whether peacefully or, unfortunately, through conflict.
And then there’s our planet’s fragile, living resources, already under threat from pesticides, fertilizers, deforestation, and biodiversity loss from monoculture farming. This living system, potentially our most abundant resource, is essential for our future.
Is it that bad?
Perhaps not immediately. Carbon emissions are slowly decreasing, organic farming is growing, recycling is on the rise, and inspiring initiatives are taking shape. Yet, time is running out when it comes to the long term. As we live longer and see what’s at stake for future generations, long-term thinking is more urgent than ever.
The result can be found in the bookazine Dif100Y+, which will be published in 2025. In this unique blend of magazine and book, world’s leading thinkers, artists, and designers imagine a future shaped by long-term thinking. We focus on eight key topics: food, water, shelter, love & reproduction, brainfood, social purpose, material needs and labor & automation.
